Tibetan Incense.

Maybe you've never heard of it. This is a type of natural incense used in Tibetan Buddhism rituals for 1,300 years. It has a typical "earth" or "herbal" flavor. Tibetan people also use it for healing support. Tibetan incense has a deep relationship with Buddhism and Tibetan Medicine so it's an important representative of Tibetan culture.

After the 7th century AD, Songtsan Gambo sent 16 young talents to study in India, 15 of them died abroad, and only Thonmi Sambhota returned. He also invented the Tibetan language and translated many Buddhist scriptures. Later, he returned to his hometown Tumda village. He found that the land here was scarce, so he passed on the techniques of making Tibetan incense to the people for improving the lives of the villagers. He used the resources of the Tumba River to invent the water mill Tibetan incense, which should be the earliest Tibetan incense in Tibet. It has been more than 1,300 years since then.

Tibetan incense's ingredients are a variety of precious Chinese herbal medicines, which are physically mixed and formulated in proportion and have great healing properties.

According to the theory of Tibetan medicine, Tibetan incense products meet the Five Elements of the human body. Its medicinal principles are detoxification, sterilization, anti-infection, anti-virus. It can kill pathogenic microorganisms in the air, purify the air, and prevent the spread of viruses.

The ingredients used to make the Tibetan incense are hand-collected by Incense Master Renqing Dezhe. His incense are being used in the sacred Potala Palace in Tibet.

This annual collection is a very important life journey for Dezhe.

Dezhe's collection time takes nearly half a year, from July until the first snow.

The physical distribution of the medicinal herbs is very wide, ranging Lhasa to Qinghai and Gansu. The altitude extends from about 6,000 meters to 3,000 meters.

Musk is one of the components of Tibetan incense. Musk is hard to find, and Dezhe said that we can only wait for the snow to fall, and all the plants to dry out. Only when there is no interference from other flowers and herbs in the air can the smell of musk be distinguished.

Dezhe followed the footprints of the musk deer in the snow. If you're lucky, you can find naturally shed musk in the dung feces.

Walking in the mountains, Dezhe would often stop to make offerings to Cha Cha (Tibetan deity). This is used to stabilize the elements of earth, water, fire and wind in mountainous areas.

Dezhe said, "Tibetan incense is made by nature. If one of the plants is missing, the four kinds of incense cannot be produced. The mountains are lonely, and Dezhe is alone for more than ten years."

The stars in the night sky of the Himalayas are always with him, the bright wish in his heart.

Dezhe said, "I make incense because I want people all over the world to be healthy and happy."

Incense Master Renqing Dezhe makes four types of incense. He only produces one batch of incense per year, so once they are sold out, you have to wait for the next year. And depending on ingredients' availabilities due to Mother Nature, there is no guaranteed date of production. His incenses are named "Morning Glory", "Star Flame", “Elemental Harmony" and "Pilgrimage to Truth". They correspond to the four mystical animals of the ancient Chinese culture in four directions, and they contain precious ingredients such as gold, American, coral, turquoise, and saffron.
